JANUARY 24, 2011

Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, welcome to the beginning of the most important moment of your life. That’s right. Propaganda is back. What’s that I hear? Squeals of delight? Tears of joy? Yes my dear lovers. Cry, squeal, laugh, applaud, do all that you must to welcome the magic of propaganda back into your heart.

Its cold outside, but its warm in our new beautiful office at 1087 Queen St. West right above the Great Hall and Theatre Centre. It is also conveniently across the hall from Theatre Centre Artistic Director, Franco Boni, whose ideas we steal daily. So if you don’t like our style, don’t blame us, its Franco’s fault. (disclaimer: that is not true)

With love,

Michael Rubenfeld
Artistic Producer

Say hello to Joanna Barrotta!

We’ve got some very exciting news to share in the form of a woman named Joanna Barrotta.

Who is this, you ask? The inaugural GENERAL MANAGER of the SummerWorks Festival. Say Whhaaa? Yes, friends, now we have two part-time year-round employees. TWO. This is very good news for everyone, because your work will be better supported, and Joanna is much nicer and approachable than me.

But have no fear, I am still here. I will never leave you. Never. That’s a promise. (disclaimer: that is probably also not true)

One thing IS for certain. I love you. Joanna loves you. And so does SummerWorks. Think about it.

To start the year off, we decided it would be nice to ask a few of our past lovers to tell us why they care about us and why you should too. Its not the we’re needy. We just really want your love.

But first, we bless you with a couple of important deadlines.

Our only requirements are that the work has both live musical and dramatic elements, and has never before been produced. Applications from diverse artistic practices are strongly encouraged to apply (i.e. theatre artists, indie musicians, dancers, video artists, etc.)

Submitted pieces should be a minimum of forty-five minutes in length. We’re accepting full-length works (one or two acts) or a completed first act of an unfinished work.
